Cinema 4D Quick Tip: Using Mograph to Create a ‘Transparency Effector’


In this Cinema 4D quick tip, I will be going over how you can use Mograph Effectors to change the transparency of objects.  I’ll demonstrate how you can use effectors to fade on or off MoText objects letter by letter.  You can also use this technique to affect transparency of any object that you can apply an effector to, like placing them inside a Cloner Object or Fracture Object.  I’ve made the project file available to download, showing how you can get it to work using a Fracture Object to apply the effectors.

  1. Smooth and clever, took me a while to figure out a nice way to fade in/out in C4D. Essentially using a texture with BW values in the Alpha Channel, this solution adds more flexibility with the uses of effectors. Thanks EJ

    1. Yeah its so simple once you figure out what’s going on behind the scenes, but they should have a transparency option on an effector or something to make it easier. Or add a transparency option to the Shader effector. Oh well…easy enough solution for now. Thanks for checking it out, Ronn!

  2. EJ – The first tutorial (Quick Tip 03: Using Effectors to Fade On Motext) looks like a very straight forward tutorial, but the color shader has me stumped. I am able to get the text to change to the “letters color”, but applying the color shader to the alpha channel of a new color doesn’t have any influence on transparency. I have watched the multiple times, but can’t get this to work.

    I downloaded the project file, ( hoping it would clarify this for me. However, that file is for using a fracture object without Motext, so the process is different.

    BTW I am using R14 if that matters. Any suggestions???

  3. How do you get the alpha to show it’s effecting the object in the viewport? I can see it when I render but not while I’m working.
